🦗 Back After 17 Years: Brood XIV Has Emerged
Celebrate the return of the Greater Eastern Brood with this limited edition 2025 cicada t-shirt. Designed with scientifically inspired graphics and printed on ultra-soft green cotton, this shirt marks one of nature’s most impressive spectacles—the mass emergence of Brood XIV cicadas.
Printed in Maryland and available only through July 1, this is a rare wearable for science lovers, nature fans, and collectors.
🧬 About Brood XIV – The Greater Eastern Brood
Brood XIV is the second-largest periodical cicada brood in the United States, even larger than Brood X. It emerges every 17 years in four distinct regions:
- A massive patch from northeast Georgia to southern Ohio
- A dense population in central Pennsylvania
- Unique colonies on Long Island
- Isolated populations on Cape Cod’s sandy soils
This brood includes three periodical species:
Magicicada cassini, Magicicada septendecim, and Magicicada septendecula.
Known for its reach, volume (up to a million per 2.4 acres), and historical overlap with other broods, Brood XIV has earned its title as the Greater Eastern Brood.
📅 Next emergence of Brood XIV? 2042.
(It will co-emerge with Brood XIX in 2076—a once-in-a-lifetime double brood event.)
