Coptic Stitch Handmade Book - Gold & Black

Hand bound by book artist Patti Paulus. The cover is original paste paper in pale gold, with soft cream shapes lifted out of the wet paint so the design reads as a bloom of light rather than a drawn figure. It is the palest cover in the range, and the black linen thread and black back board are the only dark notes on the book. Each sheet is pulled by hand, so this pattern belongs to this book alone.

The paste paper wraps the boards directly, with no cloth at the spine, so the exposed coptic stitch sits right against them. The black thread against pale gold is the whole visual argument for this one. The stitch is what lets the book fall open flat and stay there, including on the first and last spreads.

A landscape book at 5 by 6 inches, with 144 blank pages on 70 lb acid free text weight.
